Textron Joins Industry Leaders; Commits to Doubling Its U.S. Engineering Internships
Announced in a recent White House press release, Textron will be doubling its number of U.S. engineering internships in 2012. With this effort, Textron joins Intel, Boeing, Caterpillar, Dell, GE and 38 other U.S. industry leaders in support of increasing technical advancements in the U.S. This initiative was kicked off by the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.
While overall U.S. college graduation levels have increased about 50 percent in the last ten years, the number of engineering graduates has stagnated at around 120,000. "For America to stay competitive in the global market, we must train and retain the world's best engineers," said U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu. Internships support this cause by increasing the opportunities for engineering students to get hands-on, technical job experience. This effort also contributes to the broader Jobs Council goal to graduate 10,000 more engineering students from U.S. colleges and universities each year.
The number of summer engineering internships at Textron will increase from 120 to at least 240 in 2012 as part of our commitment, and will vary by U.S. location.
